That's a really old version, so more bugs, less features, no support. If
you're happy with that...

I used the pre-build deb-package from github.com/agraef/purr-data in

Yes, because it's built from exactly the same sources as the other OBS
packages, just using a different nw.js package for armv7l.

So (even though I understood only 1/4 of what you were writing) my question

The ALSA backend hasn't changed (much), but we're using a much newer nw.js
version now. The new nw.js version might be more taxing than the old one,
or it might interfere with the ALSA backend in some other way, we simply
don't know at this point. But remember that Jack also struggles with the
onboard dsp, so it's at least part of the problem.

Those little dongles solve all these problems. They are plug-and-play, you
also get a microphone input, they're dirt cheap, will probably outlive your
Pi, and they take up no room at all. I'd say that's a pretty good deal. I
always have a couple of those lying around, just in case. You never know
when your onboard dsp dies, the preamps get noisy, or the mini jack socket
breaks. ;-)

And: Where do you want the bug-report to go? Under Issues in Gitlab or via
