Sounds great to me. It's hard to imagine that Miller would adopt this,
though, so it might be useful to conditionalize this with -legacy.

If I understood this correctly, this doesn't affect the patch format, is
that right? We'd have to put a caveat into the comment documentation,
though, so that people understand which characters they have to avoid in
order to maintain compatibility with vanilla.
