IOhannes is correct. There is one thing that OP might be hinting at, however, that might be worth considering. The flatpak developers want projects to be using the latest version of the freedesktop and are strongly discouraging use of older versions on newly submitted projects. This is why in the recent release of Pd-L2Ork I was required to use the latest 23.08. Given that adjusting this in any flatpak manifest requires a simple change and I have not seen any regressions going from 22.08 to this one, it may not be a bad idea to encourage all Pd flatpak variants to use the same version of the flatpak, which in turn will significantly lower a cumulative hard drive footprint for those who wish to have multiple versions installed alongside.

Best,

Ico

--
Ivica Ico Bukvic, D.M.A.
Director, Creativity + Innovation
Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology

Virginia Tech
Creative Technologies in Music
School of Performing Arts – 0141
Blacksburg, VA 24061
(540) 231-6139
ico@vt.edu

ci.icat.vt.edu
l2ork.icat.vt.edu
ico.bukvic.net

On Fri, Nov 3, 2023, 05:02 IOhannes m zmölnig <zmoelnig@iem.at> wrote:

On 11/2/23 18:07, Linux ROUEN Normandie wrote:
are you sure?

if you *only* install e.g. "Pd", you might need 2GB, but the flatpak of
Pd itself is only 43MB (extracted).
it does require a runtime environment ("Freedesktop Platform" and
friends), which *is* quite big in total.

however, in my understanding, the platform can be shared between
different applications, so once you have installed e.g. Pd, also
installing Pd-L2ork will only add another 572MB, and also installing
PurrData will only add another 284MB.

(there are different versions of the "Freedesktop Environment", so the
above is not *always* true; nevertheless there is a lot of data sharing
between applications)
