I just reviewed my plans with my supervisor,

He suggested that the timelines I have in mind are overly optimistic (I
guess you sort of had the same impression as well), and that there will not
be a period in summer where I could solely focus on GSOC, and therefore my
forecast for full time commitment in August is not realistic. It is almost
certain that after the feedback from the July presentations, students are
left with lots of changes/additions to implement in addition to report
writing..

I guess there is no point in being stubborn and having both projects (and
myself) suffer.. though I was genuinely excited to apply this year.

However, other than hopefully applying for a future GSOC edition when I
pursue further studies, I would still like to get more involved with the
purr data community. :)

Thanks a lot for your time though!
