Make sure also to make it the default booting kernel. Once you have booted
in the terminal you can type:

 

uname -a

 

This will tell you what kernel you are currently running. It should have
lowlatency in its name. If it doesn't, you can install "grub-customizer"
which is a boot customizer where you can select the default kernel and other
boot options (like timeout, whether to show the boot menu at all etc.).

Installed well on the Ubuntu 12.04 laptop. Just for the record, it caused
the mouse to lock up on the 12.10 machine. This is the final straw, so we
will be downgrading that machine over the weekend.
