Pd-l2ork install should happily coexist next to pd-vanilla. Its settings are stored in default.pdl2ork or ~/.pdl2ork. Executable is pd-l2ork. That said IMHO pd-l2ork is more stable and bug-free than pd-vanilla and offers an array of new features that makes editing easier while being 100% backwards-compatible and as such I think you will be much better off using it. :-)
